I see a lot of people expresses their feelings through pictures, stories, and in this instant poetry. She is a wonderful poet and has a lot to say just behind a couple lines of poetry. One of her poems is called, The Author to Her Book. Before I even started reading the poem itself, I was immediately caught by the title. Anne compares herself to her book. It's as if she's saying that she is the book and at the same time will give you a life story. I also think that her life was not filled with too much excitement. Usually when people tell stories about themselves they write books or even short stories. Bradstreet, instead, wrote a poem to express her feelings and as well tell us, the audience about her life. As i took a step into the first line of her poem i couldn't help but stumble over her first eight words. "Thou ill-formed offspring of my feeble brain"(Bradstreet 1:1). The use of diction in this particular line is outstanding. So why didn't she just say the weirdly shaped offspring of my weak brain. Bradstreet used those words to bring you closer to what she is feeling. To me its as if she tells you that the lyrics that are coming from her mind are so intriguing because she is so weak from trying to raise her children and on top of that her husband is not always home so she's left to do all the work. As she enters the what we call teenage phase of life Anne starts to become insecure. It seemed as if she never felt go about herself. Everytime she wiped her face it just became worse. Girls tend to be more careful about their appearance then boys. So she feels really bad now that she can't seem to get it right. But at the same time it doesn't just appeal to her face. I feel that she is saying that everytime she tries to wipe away something in her life it all just comes back and when it comes back it's worse then it was before. She then tries to establish some pathos towards the end of her poem. She tells you about how her mother was poor and therefore was kicked out. I think this relates to us because a lot of people are poor nowadays and by getting you to feel how she felt then maybe something can be done about poverty. It also connects back to her life because she was the head of her household with eight children and it would have been easy for her to slip into a recession without her husband being their for mental, physical and financial support. Another one of Anne's popular poems is called, To My Dear and Loving Husband. You might say that how can such a poem have a deeper meaning then what is stated in it. This is a poem basically to tell everyone how good of a husband she had and to let him know that she appreciates it. She says, "If ever two were one, then surely we" (Bradstreet 2:1). Diction is a key goal in this line because she sets it up so that you can imagine anybody in the world that feels like they are meant for each other and then put that in their lives. If one of them liked one thing then the other like the opposite so that they fitted together perfectly. But it does not stop there. She speaks about gold and that her love for her husband exceeds the love that gold could give her. This is very significant because she is not the richest of all people and any money can help her. But to say that your love tops as much gold as the world can supply really shows the love and affection that one could hold for another human being. With this being said i believe that Anne Bradstreet is one of the best poets living and should be further awarded for it.
