W.E.B DuBois tries to argue in some way that black folks should be just the same as white folks in every way. So he does this by addressing the rhetorical triangle with logos, tone, and his extensive flow of details.
We can all say that DuBois has bee through a lot in his life. He even encountered many struggles. But does he pass the test of logos. " The exchange was merry, till one girl, a tall newcomer, refused my card,--refused it peremptorily, with a glance"(DuBois 8 Lines 18-20). So we say does he pass the test. DuBois was given a ticket at a front row seat to this problem. He had been rejected of his card because he was different. Not gender wise nor was it because he was not cool but he was black. DuBois is the definition of credible man. You cannot get any deeper than someone who has seen this racism and humiliation face to face like he did. Is DuBois full of logos? Yes he is for the reason that he has seen the problem before in his life and lives of others. You could probably ask him as many questions as you pleased on his argument of racism vs. equality and he could give you a dozen answers off the dome. But this is not the only way he conveys hi9s argument. DuBois uses details and gives you a tone that lingers as you read this essay.
DuBois has a tone of calmness. He doesn't want to get to worked up about it when it is not necessary. The only way to get his point across to the whites and hope for a change is to hold his composure and speak his mind. Now DuBois mentioned, " the shades of the prison house closed round about us all: walls strait and stubborn to the whitest, but relentlessly narrow, tall, and unscalable to sons of night who must plod darkly on in resignation"(DuBois 9 Lines 6-10). His expertise in creating such imagery is unimaginable. When yo read it you actually feel there. It makes you feel uncomfortable with his choice of words. All of this contributes to his wonderful argument.
So DuBois is basically doing what all blacks wanted to which was equal opportunities. For one he gave a incredible essay packed with so much information that even a genius cannot decode all of it. But i will say that what i have read and analyzed, he is a great man and is credible to be honored.
