This picture really is a symbol of Christopher Columbus's voyages. When he went out for his first voyage his plan was to travel all the way around the ocean and come back to China. China being on the opposite side of Europe which was thought to be the only piece of land out there. So when he found this new land he thought he had made it. This is where the picture comes in at. It shows a ship traveling across the ocean carrying cargo. When the cargo arrived it was said to be a shipment of failure. This really symbolizes Columbus's voyage because his voyage was a complete trip of failure. He had just made it to America which had already been founded by Natives. The king and queen who he rushed back to to tell them that he had found this new land made a trip their to try and find gold and use the resources . When nothing was found his trip became purposeless and a failure.
